As We Enter This Holiday Season Let’s Be Mindful of Others

Although the holidays can be a joyous time, there are many who this season can be quite difficult for.

- From excessive thoughts about loved ones who are no longer with us

- To increased feelings of loneliness and isolation for those who don’t have “families” to go to

 - To our Indigenous brothers and sisters who deem Thanksgiving as a day of mourning

- To some not having enough funds to have a Christmas mired with gifts

While growing up, I was part of one of those families who didn’t have enough money for Christmas. During these times my mother managed to get us sponsored through a not for profit organization to ensure come Christmas morning my siblings and I had at least a couple presents to open.

This is why for the past several years I have sponsored families in need at Christmas. Because if you happen to be one of those families that celebrate Christmas and money is lacking, it can be downright hard, especially for children.

I’m grateful that God/Universe/Source/Creator has blessed me with the kind of resources that allow me to give back to others. Our light is meant to be shared with the world which includes money, our talents, and our time.

Here are a few ways you might consider giving of yourself this season:

  1. If there’s still time to sponsor a family in need of a Thanksgiving meal please do so for around $100 (I did through Neighborhood Grocery in Detroit)

  2. Rethink your Thanksgiving traditions to honor Indigenous people by reading this

  3. Sponsor one or more families this Christmas through a local organization or initiative
