Meditation Can Counter Community Violence

The loss of Sonya Massey has been heavy on my heart lately. When I first found out I was in the Canadian Rockies which seemed to "distract" me from focusing on the gravitos of losing another one of our people to police violence. But then yesterday, one of my sisters, Melissa Butler, founder of The Lip Bar posted something on IG that stopped me dead in my tracks.


She made a bold statement about the fact they were not just a business that sold products but one that ultimately cares about the human condition of people. And with that, business couldn't be as usual. 

 

That made me decide to wait to bring this enews to you so I could post about Sonya yesterday. 

 

In times like these I don't always have the words to articulate my thoughts and feelings. The pain ultimately interferes with my ability to communicate with ease. I now realize I don't have to "know" in order to share something....as the heart will always ultimately guide us.

 

This has shook our nation. 

We are hurting in visceral ways. 

Our hope for change has once again gone by the wayside. 

 

But it doesn't have to. We can honor this loss while centering our wellbeing through practices like meditation.

 

I was blessed to be trained in meditation by the The Open Heart Project a few years ago which had an expansive impact on my life.

 

Meditation can serve as a "healthy distraction" to help us grieve and awaken to ourselves again fully in spite of the turmoil that may be going on in the world. 


Meditation can give us strength. 

Meditation can help us breathe more easily. 

Meditation can guide us to our power and hope again.


Part of your sustainable life work is to care for yourself so you can care for the world in a way that hopefully will eventually eliminate the loss of people like Sonya Massey.
