When I was a child the concept of travel was so far removed from my consciousness, in part, because of growing up in poverty. I didn’t know that travel was something I even wanted to do because I wasn’t exposed to anything that resembled exploring a world removed from my own. And then, following the path of my mother and sister, I got an opportunity to get into Americorps (LISC). During that first year of service we had to travel to Florida for their national conference. I was eighteen at the time and it was the first chance I had to fly on a plane. From that point, I was hooked.
My first international trip wouldn’t come until a few years later when my daughter was only six months old. My friend Sharon longed to go to Prague and Venice and had racked up enough airline miles for us both. When she invited me to go and told me the only thing I’d be responsible for was my half of the hostels, food, etc., it was a no brainer for me. The immense gift she gave me to explore these two countries lit a zest for travel that I haven’t been able to escape since.
Now roughly twenty years later I have been to 37 countries across 6 continents, and don’t plan to stop anytime soon (and perhaps ever :)).
Traveling has opened me up in unexpected ways. I have built lasting relationships. I have learned countless lessons about myself and others. I have expanded my food pallets. I have curated playlists from all over the world. I have been deeply inspired. And I have gotten some of my best ideas while traveling.
Including the time I recently spent in Zambia, making it clear that the Be Well Beautiful Woman platform, the sister to Be Well Beautiful People, needs to expand our vision to ensure women and children who have the greatest need for liberation across the globe are served.
I get that travel can seem like a dream deferred for many of us, but I’m here to tell you it’s not at all. I have learned a plethora of travel hacks over the years, and I even met someone on my way back from my trip to Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Zambia, who blew my mind with additional luxury travel hacks. That someone will be on an upcoming podcast episode, but in the meantime, I’ll be offering a FREE workshop dedicated to travel tips at the end of November. Stay tuned! In the meantime, if you need support in expanding your life’s vision, including travel, hit me up here so we can explore the power of coaching to give you the courage you need to make all the things you want to happen for your life. Cheers to seeing this beautiful world,
